We decided on a flat iron that reaches higher temperatures because it’s compatible with more hair types. The Rusk W8less Professional Ceramic and Tourmaline Str8 Iron is around the same price as our pick, the GVP Ceramic Titanium Digital Flat Iron, but it offers a lighter and more compact design. At half a pound, it was among the lightest straighteners we tested (the lightest was Rusk’s Deepshine, at 0.44 pound). The Rusk W8less was one of the easiest flat irons to hold for long periods of time.

Taylor says that hair straightening products "[not only] act as a barrier to heat damage" but also "speed along the drying process," ultimately limiting the amount of time your hair is exposed to heat. Hair straightening products, such as some popular serums and creams out in the market, make use of silicones, polymers, ceramides, and glycerin for hair to coat the hair shaft. Other products also use keratin proteins to reinforce the keratin naturally found in hair.

All flat irons straighten and curl hair about the same, but the GVP Ceramic Titanium Digital Flat Iron stands out because it heats up quickly and is well-constructed enough to style hair without causing snags or dents. The GVP also includes features that are usually found on higher-end models, like a real-time digital display and accurate temperature, at a midrange price. Our panel testers were not aware of the prices on any of the flat irons they tried. After the initial round of testing, our testers’ favorite models were the priciest ones. This was probably because the most expensive straighteners featured easy-to-hold casings and high-quality hinges that allowed for easy gripping.

The temperature dial goes from 1 to 50, which correspond to 10-degree increments between 240 °F and 450 °F. If you place your hand at the bottom of the iron while the plates are closed, you risk getting some skin caught in the hinge. The hinge on the Pro G2 Digital is similarly designed—with the plates closed, there’s enough space at the bottom of the device to trap a finger. On most of the other flat irons we tested, however, the hinge placement and width were unnoticeable.

Lo and behold, rainy days did not result in frizz, so we feel very confident that it’d hold up in a muggy heatwave or vacation abroad, too. "I do not recommend biotin as it has not been shown to help with hair growth and can alter your lab results, such as thyroid labs, leading to false diagnoses." Proper nutrients are needed for your hair and the rest of your body to thrive. "It's important to incorporate a healthy diet to gain nutrients and vitamins to support the health of your hair," Hurtado says.

Permanent hair straightening refers to treatments that make your hair straight beyond a wash or two. Beyond that vague definition, your results will vary widely according to your hair type, how quickly it grows, and the chemical method you use to straighten your hair. In the U.S., permanent hair straightening treatments done by a professional will cost anywhere from $250 to $800. The price varies depending on the length of your hair and its state, the longevity of the process, and the salon where you are doing the treatment. If you live in a larger metropolitan area, the chances are that the prices will be a bit higher than in smaller towns. If you want to use a natural straightening treatment, you should look into these DIY hair straighteners that you can make at home.

The GVP iron’s one-year warranty is shorter than most of the warranties on the 10 other flat irons we tested; the average warranty was around three years. We noted the time it took to straighten or style hair with each straightener and if any snagged pieces of hair. We tested the straighteners on three friends’ hair to see how they worked on different hair textures. Those with frizzy hair dread the moment they have to step foot outside their home to brave whatever weather threats their hairstyle.

Katelyn Ellsworth, founder of hair salon The Roslyn, calls this spray her go-to straightening product.

It also comes with its own bag for any broken pieces (continued use will eventually cause it to break), so you don’t waste any product, according to the brand. This bar is also highly rated, with a 4.8-star average rating from over 270 reviews at Superzero. Keep in mind that Olapex recommends blow drying your hair 75% of the way before using this product. Kérastase Resistance Bain Volumifique Thickening Shampoo

"A few tips I have for getting straight hair really fast is using the right shampoo and conditioner to help smooth your hair," Kimble says. "Definitely dry your hair with a towel first really well to get as much moisture out as possible." The next step is to turn to one of the best hair straightening creams before reaching for a hot tool. Becca Raziuddin, director of artist education at Blo Blow Dry Bar, like this product because it's an anti-humectant shine spray that keeps frizz at bay and delivers great shine. "Apply it on dry hair before you use any heat styling tools, such as a flat iron, and it will help protect the hair from UV rays and thermal heat," she says. Because you apply it on dry hair, it's a great option for refreshing days-old blowouts and other heat styles.

Ellsworth says she also likes this mist from R+Co because it protects hair up to 450 degrees, defends against humidity, and leaves hair smooth and silky. The mist helps seal the hair cuticle, making it more resistant to humidity. One of its ingredients, kendi oil, also protects hair from breakage and minimizes frizz, leaving it soft and shiny. Jinnouchi names this Oribe cream as her go-to, lauding it for being a foolproof pick for pretty much any and every hair texture. Not only does it smooth your locks, but it also includes antioxidants and protective proteins that shield your hair from the damaging effects of heat styling.

It’s too heavy to use on non-curly textures, so keep scrolling if that’s you. This spray truly does leave our hair impressively smooth and sleek, rightfully earning its place on this list for its many benefits. Credit a proprietary anti-humidity technology that essentially acts like a raincoat (hence the name), forming a shield to block out frizz-inducing moisture. The smoothing effects are long-lasting, too—through three or four shampoos! Just keep in mind that that technology is heat-activated, so you need to blow-dry after using it, but in our experience, you can usually skip the flat iron; the product is that good.

She recommends oil products for day two hair to add shine and leave hair looking healthy and fresh. If you find yourself going through new hair straighteners on a semi-regular basis, the Conair InfinitiPro Tourmaline Ceramic Flat Iron offers the longest warranty—five years—among the flat irons we tested. The 1-inch-wide model is lightweight at 0.51 pound and comfortable to hold. The plates are also an inch and a half longer than those of our pick, measuring about 5 inches, which can make this tool cumbersome for flipping or curling hair but is useful if you want to work with thicker sections of hair at once. For those with curly and frizzy hair, using a product that can help with the manual labor of smoothing and straightening out is also a game-changer, adds Ellsworth. "Your hair will stay smoother longer, be protected from the high heat of blow dryers and flat irons, and lastly, save you time."

In the meantime, as you wait for your next appointment, take these 15 hair-straightening products for a test drive and watch your hair flourish. Their key ingredients are sweet almond oil, coconut oil, milk protein, and argan oil. These two are sulfate-free, and silicone-free hair creams safe for colored and treated hair. It’s a highly effective silicone compound used vastly across various hair care products, including heat protectants for its heat-reflective characteristics. Therefore, you must be well aware of the ingredients necessary for hair straightening as they play a crucial role in delivering results.

Tons of celebrities are going red, but Redway says you don't have to dye your whole head to get in on this color trend. Plus, this new Revlon product is available in 10 shades, so you can refresh your hair no matter the color. According to the brand, this gloss leaves hair twice as shiny and four times stronger than untreated hair, and lasts up to 28 washes. If you're switching up your shade for the first time, Redway suggests speaking to a professional colorist first. Over the past decade, voluminous curls have largely taken a backseat to light, beachy waves.

You also want to make sure that the straightening product you're using is designed for your kind of hair— coarse, curly, fine, frizzy. "This way your product won’t be too heavy or not heavy enough to do the job," Ellsworth says. "It's hands-down my favorite straightening product (and I have tried many)," says hair stylist Kali Patrice. "The slick cream detangles hair and controls frizz better than competitive products, while delivering as much thermal protection as other products in the category," she adds. When using it, a little goes a long way, and it layers well with other products. The cream is made with marine botanicals that contain nutrients, proteins, and minerals that further strengthen hair.

However, our hands and hair felt slightly sticky after the serum was applied. The tacky feeling on the hands went away after a few minutes, but it stayed in the hair until we were able to blow dry. After heat styling with a flat iron, our hair felt smooth and our dry ends felt revived.

They not only help boost smoothness and shine but also help make those ultra-sleek results last longer. If your hair tends to just look poofy and dull after a flat-iron session (been there), you need to try this hair straightener. It’s designed with titanium plates that heat up quickly and powerfully to quickly smooth your hair for a silkier finish.

That’s what L’Oréal’s Elvive range has done with its affordable skincare-inspired Hydra Hyaluronic range. If one product is particularly great for styling hair straight, it’s this shine-boosting, moisturizing leave-in, which is particularly ideal for very dry and/or dehydrated hair. Are you wanting a hair straightener for both straightening your hair and curling it?

Mice: Identification, Infestations, and Health Hazards

mice in walls but not in house

Locate the station nearest to potential food sources for the mice and still out of reach for domestic animals and children. If you think you have a rat problem, the animals are larger, more aggressive, and will bite when threatened. When shopping for pest control, look for a local company specializing in integrated pest management (IPM).

How do I find a mouse nest?

It might take a couple of weeks to achieve, but a mouse-free home is well within your reach. While setting a few mouse traps in your garage to rule out any unwanted pests is great, preventing them from entering your space is even better. "It's important to seal off the garage. Weather stripping under the garage door helps keep the pests out," says DiClerico.

Next, once you think the pests have exited your walls, mouse-proof your home by sealing up any openings you found during your inspection with steel wool and a sealant such as caulk. It won’t be long before you’re on your way to a good night’s sleep. Homeowners often think these little critters scurrying around inside the walls is better than inside the house. The reality is, mice that make their nest inside of your walls can cause serious damage to your home. They can make holes in the walls, eat through drywall, and chew on wiring, which creates a fire hazard. It’s important to identify the problem quickly and start working to get rid of these pests.

Limit Access to Nesting Materials

Attach door sweeps to the bottom of outside-facing doors to keep mice from scurrying underneath. Mice infestations can be hard to root out, so you may eventually want to talk to a pest control professional. These companies will know how to extract the mice from your walls while doing the least amount of damage to your home.

Will Rogers State Park

It’s easiest to hear them moving through your walls at night, given that the rest of the house is quiet and mice are nocturnal creatures. Mice usually live in fields and forests but will enter homes and other buildings for food and warmth. However, house mice are 10 to 20 times more common than rat infestations.

If needed, they will also use your interior doors to move from room to room. You will most likely see them near your walls, basement or attic. Ultrasonic pest repellers are electronic devices that use specific frequencies to repel pests like mice.

When to Call a Professional to Treat a Mouse Infestation

They emit ultrasonic sound waves that are inaudible to humans but can be heard by mice, rats, and other pests. The idea is that the sound will irritate the animals enough to drive them away from the area where it is being used. Below are some examples of products we recommend for preventing mice from getting into your house and walls. The product consists of two parts, one part being the plastic trap and the other part being the bait station. The bait station provides food for the mice so they can eat and then get trapped inside the plastic trap when they try to return back to their nest. The bait stations are for placing peanut butter or other bait in order to attract the mice.

Broken or Torn Vents

From there, it’s possible that they can nest within wall voids, causing that unnerving scratching noise and movement you hear at night. Bolster your defense against future infestations in your walls by picking up rodent deterrents. Your local hardware store should carry a range of options designed to send mice scurrying away rather than kill them. If you’d rather make your own to repel unwelcome invaders, just combine three cups of warm water with one teaspoon of peppermint essential oil in a spray bottle. One whiff of peppermint and these rodents swiftly turn away and find somewhere else to roam.

Many animals hibernate in winter, such as bears, and some types of frogs, snakes, squirrels, and turtles. When temperatures drop, they seek shelter to nest, but they're still active and spend much of their time foraging, or searching for food. Often, they enter your home through cracks and crevices and nest in the warmth of walls, attics, and crawl spaces. Outside, mice will burrow into the ground to seek warmth and have babies. If you’re convinced you’re dealing with a mouse infestation but you or your pets haven’t been able to catch mice as of yet, setting traps may give you peace of mind. Place traps in any areas around your home that you suspect are mouse hangouts.

Pictured below, you can see where mice chewed through an old crawl space vent, causing an infestation. One of our exclusion technicians found this issue upon inspection when of a client called for help with a rodent problem. You’re lying in bed, trying to fall asleep, and all of a sudden…scratching.

Not all fireplaces are the old-fashioned brick-and-mortar chimney style. Unfortunately, mice can gain entry to your home using almost any type of fireplace. Mice can easily chew door and window screens made of lightweight plastic mesh, giving them easy access to your home. If there are already holes or rips in the screens, it makes chewing through it much easier.

To be effective, the rodent traps must be placed properly and along areas frequented by the mice. Often, homeowners incorrectly place traps, making them ineffective, and they can also present a risk to children or pets if they have access to the trap. Of course, this shouldn't be the only reason to get a four-legged friend, and there are tradeoffs to consider, from the cost of feeding and care to all that pet hair.

Signs of Mice But No Droppings: How to Identify a Mouse Infestation Without Finding Droppings DIY Rodent Control

mice in walls but not in house

For your own peace of mind (and even your pets’), it’s best to call the experts to take mice control action immediately. If you are not sure if your problem are mice, check out our Solution Finder to help you identify and solve your rodent problem. Mice living in your walls will eventually emerge in search of food, so you don’t need to place traps inside the walls to catch mice. Instead, you can place them in areas where you have noticed mouse droppings or gnaw marks. Glue traps and snap traps are both effective, but you can also find humane catch-and-release traps.

Deer Mouse

Mice can cause structural damage such as chewing electric cables and spreading diseases to people living within. Eames House is another home you might not have heard of if you’re not into architecture, but if you are, it is a home you must check out. It is all about modern design, and with large open spaces, floor-to-ceiling windows, and unique themes throughout, it’s really a masterpiece. For the catch and dispose of kind, you can use something like the Kat Sense Mouse Traps.

More in Pest Control

Thousands of residential homes and commercial structures suffer from unwanted mouse infestations each year. It’s no surprise that the top reasons for mouse activity within walls are targeted areas that are most vulnerable and neglected that provide easy access points. At this time, homeowners may capture or kill mice through the use of mouse traps. Spring-loaded traps, glue traps, and live-catch traps are commercially available. Some are designed to kill captured rodents, while others require homeowners to release mice outside.

Mouse

mice in walls but not in house

Below are all the steps you should take to get invading mice out of your home (and keep them out). Since mice don’t move unless they have a reason to, they can be hard to get rid of. That’s why it’s crucial to take preventative measures to keep these critters out. Runs on drywall, furniture, or countertops may be your first clue.

If you’re not seeing any new signs of mice after a few days, it’s possible they may have left on their own. Even if you don’t see any droppings, it is still important to clean up any areas where mice may have been present. This includes areas where you have seen mouse urine stains or evidence of nesting. If you suspect that you have a mouse infestation, you should also look for smudge marks or grease marks. Mice leave smudge marks on walls and baseboards as they run along them, and they leave grease marks on surfaces that they frequently touch. Another physical sign of a mouse infestation is footprints or mouse tracks.

The 10 ugliest buildings in Los Angeles

Hearing mice running through your walls is only one indication that you have a mouse infestation. You may pick up on several other signs before you ever see a mouse with your own eyes. If you're unsure if you have rats or mice, call a local pest control company for a second opinion.

Builder’s Gaps

In a best-case scenario, a mouse or two carries the pellets you’ve strategically placed, carries it back to the nest, and one or more die inside your walls. You’ll no longer worry about mice but may get a whiff of something unpleasant in your home several days after the deed is done. The deadly chemicals geared toward rodents are found and ingested by children or four-legged friends. It is essential to properly identify mice before trying to get rid of them. It can be easy to confuse activity in the walls for mice when it is actually rats or some other wildlife. In most instances, call a pest control expert to eliminate a rat problem.

Basements, attics, crawlspaces and cracks around windows and doors are all possible entry points. Do your best detective work to determine where the mice live and build nests, and then set your traps around those general areas. Utility pipes such as sump pumps (pictured above) and other plumbing aren’t always completely sealed where they meet the exterior of the house. Mice are skilled climbers that can use the gaps around piping to enter your basement and walls. Take a walk around the outside of your home and look for these gaps.

In conclusion, if you saw a mouse in your house but didn’t find any droppings, it’s important to look for other signs of a mouse infestation. By identifying these signs early, you can take action to prevent a full-blown infestation and protect your home from damage. Discovering signs of mice in your home can be unsettling, but finding signs of mice but no droppings can be even more puzzling.

However, several signs will alert you to their presence, such as finding holes in your clothes, spotting mouse droppings and smelling their urine. Get rid of mice in the walls of your home by scenting your house with peppermint oil. Try placing cotton balls doused with peppermint essential oil in spots where you have spotted mouse droppings. Perfume the home with peppermint oil in your vacuum cleaner bag to help freshen the air and keep them away.

Mice also carry diseases and can pose a serious health risk to you and your family. If you have mice in walls but not house issues, it’s important to take action quickly to prevent damage to your property and keep your family safe. You may also notice your cat or dog sniffing around your walls or crawl space.

It has been introduced to many locations around the world, often by human activity or on ships trading overseas. I know you only have mice in your walls and not in your house, but a safe stance would be to assume that the mice will eventually find a way into your home. The mice will continue to scurry around your walls as long as there is food around. Today, nobody lives in this home, which belongs to the MAK Center for Art and Architecture. How to get rid of rats in the house: Expert's easy seven step guide for rodent free homes.

Mice are known to move quickly and may only visit a certain area briefly before moving on to another location in your home. But when they're unwelcome guests in your house, there's not much benefit, and it's a good idea to prevent them from coming in. They’re golden brown with a pale underbelly, and their ears and eyes are large in relation to their size.

As a bonus, your home will smell minty fresh—a little aromatherapy in exchange for your trouble. Mice will emerge from your walls in search of food, and that’s your best window of opportunity to catch them. Bait multiple traps with peanut butter or cheese, and place them wherever you’ve found mouse droppings, especially under sinks, inside drawers, and behind furniture. Rodents enter homes through small openings, such as wall gaps or floor cracks.

Mice commonly enter homes through cracks and holes in foundations and walls. Other places mice may get inside include exterior vents, pipes and wires that lead outside, gaps in windows and doors, and even plumbing pipes. Weep holes are intentional gaps between bricks when masonry takes place on a home or other human-made structures. The purpose of weep holes is to prevent moisture from being trapped behind the bricks, which can lead to structural issues. While it’s suggested that you shouldn’t seal or fill in weep holes, it is important to keep them screened off to prevent rodents and other insects from entering. Weep holes are large and exposed, leaving a perfect space for infestations.

Spray foam insulation is a liquid latex or polyurethane foam that expands and hardens to fill gaps. For large insulating jobs, professionals spray this insulation into place with special equipment. Foam board or insulating boards are rigid panels of insulation that have a high R-value. Because they have a high R-value and can be used nearly anywhere in your home, foam board insulation is one of the most common types of insulation. These are pre-cut sections of insulation that are usually fiberglass, although cellulose, mineral wool, natural fibers and plastic versions are also available.

How Much Does Spray Foam Insulation Cost?

There also are expanded polystyrene (EPS) blocks that are cut to fit inside the cavity of a concrete masonry unit (CMU). However, some of these products aren’t readily available, and the job is typically best left to a professional during the construction process. Including labor, fiberglass is the most affordable of the three options at around $0.50 to $1.10 per square foot, followed by rock wool at $1.40 to $2.10 and cellulose at $2.00 to $2.30. Materials aren’t the only driver of price, since local building codes’ required R-values for insulation differ between attics and walls.

Insulation decreases the amount of heat entering from outside when it’s hot and traps warmth inside when it’s cold. R-value measures how resistant types of insulation is based on the type, thickness and density of the insulation material. Typically, a higher R-value means better climate control and better energy efficiency for your home. The Department of Energy recommends different insulation levels based on your region to increase energy efficiency. Having your home well insulated is key to keeping the temperature comfortable and your energy bills low.

Top Tips for Insulating Crawl Space

While some insulation types may have a higher upfront cost, they may provide greater energy savings in the long run. It is important to note that reflective insulation primarily focuses on blocking radiant heat transfer and is not as effective at reducing conductive or convective heat transfer. Therefore, it is most beneficial in hot climates or areas with high solar exposure. Reflective insulation can work in conjunction with other insulation materials, such as fiberglass or cellulose insulation, to provide a comprehensive and efficient insulation solution. It can be installed alongside traditional insulation to enhance the overall insulation performance, especially in areas with high solar radiation.

One of the best ways to insulate an exterior wall is to clad it with rigid polystyrene foam. This insulation can attach to a wall and hide under siding, or adhere directly to a concrete wall that is free of cracks or any signs of moisture. That’s a lot of information on the types of insulation available, but there might still be some questions floating around.

Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs)

Fiberglass insulation commonly lasts for around 80 to 100 years, but it should be checked for signs of damage around 15 years after installation. Rock wool, meanwhile, is particularly moisture-resistant and the least likely among blown-in insulation materials to require replacement across a home’s lifespan, lasting up to 100 years. Although it’s the most eco-friendly blown-insulation option of the three, cellulose insulation only lasts for 20 to 30 years on average because of its recycled makeup and low moisture resistance. Like fiberglass insulation, homeowners should begin checking cellulose insulation in the attic for noticeable degradation around 15 years after having it installed. Fiberglass insulation, with its affordability and thermal performance, remains a popular choice among homeowners. Cellulose insulation offers excellent thermal and sound insulation, with the added benefit of being eco-friendly.

This insulation is often sold in batts or rolls and is relatively easy to install. Choosing the best home insulation types depends on your location and the current state of your home’s insulation. If you don’t have all the tools you need to install insulation yourself, use our tool rental services. Or use The Home Depot's Installation Services to ensure you get the right type of insulation installed in your home. A radiant barrier is a type of insulation that reflects heat away from your home instead of reducing the flow of heat out of your home, like most other insulations. Homeowners in warmer climates typically place reflective or radiant barriers in the attic between joists, rafters, and beams, since the attic is where most heat enters a home.

Typically used as sheets of plastic, vapor barriers can be coatings like paint or membranes made from metal, rubber, and other materials. While a vapor barrier won’t do much to prevent heat transfer, it can be effective at reducing vapor and air movement through the wall. And, since vapor barriers are usually just plastic sheets, many DIYers can easily handle the installation on their own. There are many types of insulation, and even more ways insulation is used in a building. Some varieties are better suited for new construction or unfinished spaces, and others are easier to use by DIYers for remodeling projects.

Now that we have discussed the pricing and cost factors, let’s compare the prices of different insulation types at Lowes. The material is treated with fire-retardant chemicals during the manufacturing process, making it safer in the event of a fire. This can provide you and your family with added peace of mind and enhance the overall safety of your home. Fiberglass insulation is one of the most commonly used types of insulation, and it is readily available at Lowes. It is made from thin fibers of glass that are woven together to form a fluffy material.

Reflective insulation, also known as radiant barrier insulation, is a unique type of insulation available at Lowes. It is designed to reflect heat away from your home, helping to keep it cool in hot climates or during the summer months. Furthermore, insulation can also help to create a quieter and more comfortable living environment by reducing outside noise transmission. It acts as a sound barrier, muffling unwanted noises from the street or neighbors, creating a peaceful and serene atmosphere inside your home. Structural insulated panels (SIPs) were a major advancement in post-and-beam and timber-framing insulation.

Attics (R-30 to R-60) often need greater thermal resistance than walls (R-13 to R-23). Coupled with the large surface area of most attics, this makes blowing insulation into the attic more expensive than blown-in wall insulation. It is an affordable option for homeowners who are looking to improve their home’s energy efficiency without breaking the bank. Additionally, fiberglass insulation has excellent thermal performance, providing effective insulation to keep your home comfortable in all seasons.

You’ll find everything from R-19 to R-30 batt insulation, so you can tailor your insulation to the needs of your space. Now that we have explored the insulation prices at Lowes, let’s discuss some tips for choosing the right insulation for your home.

House wrap is another product that aids in insulating a home — but not in the same way as the insulation types mentioned above. You’ll still need those to increase energy efficiency and get the other benefits they provide. If you’re working on new construction, however, apply house wrap before the siding to help protect walls and framing from potential damage from moisture and air. Shop Lowe’s to find house wrap supplies, including Tyvek house wrap, for your project. It provides up to R-3.3 per inch of thickness, meaning it outperforms most other batts materials.

This is an elegant look when paired with cream-colored paint, dark wood, and a custom stone arch. When you move into a new home, it can be difficult to integrate your furnishings into the existing style of the space. This massive timber frame pool table with trestle legs makes for a great focal point, but it fights against the sleek and modern mirrored bar. Finding a bridge piece is a great way to bring together two disparate styles. Here, a large linear chandelier mirrors the shape of the pool table, and its solid metal frame has a heft that holds up against the wood.

Basement Lighting Ideas To Brighten Things Up

For those of you who like to get your hands dirty, this simple basement bar is one that can be easily recreated no matter how small your basement area is. The wooden flooring, a minimal bar, and some out-of-the-ordinary wall decor are all you need to convert your basement into an alluring hang-out zone. To create a comfortable and inviting basement bar, you’ll need to focus on several essential aspects.

This basement bar features many dark finishes, but still feels bright and inviting. Take inspiration from the 43 insanely cool basement bar ideas featured in this article and let your imagination run wild. If you want to keep it simple and easy, a wall bar may be right for your basement. If you’ve got some free basement space and you’re itching to transform it into your personal watering hole, then you’ve come to the right place. Whether you’re looking to create a sports bar, a sophisticated wine bar, or even a simple DIY setup, here are 20 fantastic basement bar ideas to inspire your project.

An underground kitchen opens up more room upstairs for extra bedrooms, office space, or a game room. Create your own sports lounge by mounting a TV above the bar and serve your guests without missing a play. Incorporate your team of choice into elements like upholstery on your stools to highlight the theme. Even if your bar takes up a small amount of basement space, you can make it fit in by extending shared details throughout the space. Rustic beams can frame out the area, and extend across the ceiling to tie in the seating area. Basements are great places to gather to play board or tabletop games with family and friends.

White always suggests elegance

You're the creative director of your basement bar design, so make sure to infuse the space with personalized details that cater to your style. In this design by Serenbe, a sparkling glass backsplash is married with vintage oil paintings, milky vases filled with greenery, and surprising decorative details. The instinct for a basement may be to go light, but the opposite can have a dramatic effect. It doesn't get much more sleek than this striking basement bar created by Lisa Chun of Our Home Becoming. All black walls and cabinetry create a cohesive look, while a recessed area with floral wallpaper adds some visual appeal.

It's the surprise that counts - the great space-saving idea

With the right materials though, your bar can feel bright, fresh, and completely updated. This bar uses glossy white subway tiles and gleaming white quartz countertops to bring in a reflective effect that makes the space feel airier. This effect is magnified by the tray ceiling which creates the illusion of height. Layered lighting in the form of recessed ceiling lights and gold chrome wall sconces will keep the space feeling bright around the clock. To end our list of basement bar ideas, we’ve decided to combine the two.

This small basement bar idea proves that a statement furniture piece, an art collection, and unique barware can make a spare basement corner happy hour-ready. A small tray holds bottles and napkins; an antique pitcher contains drinking straws. Bring in color and pattern through an ice bucket or drinking glasses, and add height with a stack of recipe books. All-black basement bars achieve this by incorporating non-black elements that almost disappear into their surroundings, such as an orchid or matching white cabinets. Touches like this enable the dark design to work in virtually any basement space. Pair dark wooden cabinets with a light backsplash and wall color to make your basement bar section stand out.

Basements provide a unique opportunity to craft a compelling space in your home, visually appealing, useful in a practical sense, and immensely enjoyable. One of the key elements of these spaces and arguably the most exciting part of all is the bar. If you don't want to spend the money to build out an entire bar, consider installing a bar cabinet instead. If you don't want a prominent bar display, opt for a more covert approach that you can unveil on occasion, like this clever design by D2 Interieurs. The bar here is tucked into its own space but still includes all the makings of the perfect cocktail.

But even that involves some strategy and ingenuity to make the area feel fun and inviting. Do you want a wet bar in your basement that looks sleek and sophisticated? Gordon James Construction crafted this basement to perfection. Evoke rustic simplicity with natural materials in warm tones. A brick wall, wooden cabinets, and unfinished wooden ceiling beams create a cozy, hole-in-the-wall pub feel that is cheerful and lived-in.

Base cabinets provide ample storage, while shelves are a convenient spot for frequently used items, such as glasses, bowls, or plates. Basements tend to have low ceilings and sometimes feel cramped, but bright white subway tile keeps this space light and airy. A basement wet bar inside a game room is a regular option in most homes. Get a poker or maybe pool table, air hockey, as well as arcade video games, to make the bar area an enjoyable experience. It may be a little of a stereotype, but one basement bar concept that’s well-liked by males is a sports-themed bar.

With tons of counter space and bar stool seating, there’s no shortage of room to relax here. The dark wood cabinets and matching island pull the design together, with mismatched pendant lighting giving it an expressive touch. Forget about going to your local bar—when your basement looks like this, there’s no need to leave (or spend extra money).

Furthermore, the wet bar presents as spotless—stunning work of art by W.B. So, you’d want to have a basement that’s as stylish as it is functional? In the same vein, the wet bar is ultramodern and gives off an air of high-end sophistication. This Hri Design wet bar is perfect for hosting sophisticated guests.

43 Insanely Cool Basement Bar Ideas For Your Home

Not only does the natural finish of stone or brick tie into the rustic vibe, they are durable, strong and more weather resistant. This homeowner opted for a wood bar and matching bar stool chairs to contrast the texture of the natural stone walls. While many people appreciate the austere aesthetic of modern interior design, others can find it to be a little cold and sterile.

Amazing combination of wood, marble, metal, and light

The entire bar L-shaped bar area’s glitz and glam emanate from those chairs and paints every surface with a strut and a shout. Hang an ornate chandelier in front of a wall-recessed mirror to expand the space and create yet more sparkle for your fanciest moments. The furniture speaks of both classic elements and comfort (in true PB fashion), while the navy cabinets and wine shelf accent the space beautifully. Sometimes, I walk into Pottery Barn and think, “Can I just live here? ” If you’ve ever felt that way too, then you should consider this basement wet bar for your home.

Quirky Ideas for Basement Bars

basement bar design ideas

Not all bars need to have a countertop area that you can walk behind. If you’re short on square footage, this bar style will take up too much room to be functional. One option is to have your bar come straight out from the wall with cabinets or shelves on the two walls meeting in the corner. This is a galley-style bar, and you can make it as long as you have the space. You could have dark-stained wood, marble, or granite for the bar.

Skip the Bar Stools

As a member of esteemed associations such as the NCIDQ, CIDA, NAAB, and CCIDC, he upholds high standards in his work. Inventive homeowners have converted everything from pianos and TVs to barrels and cable reels into bar components. Smaller items, like wine bottle corks, bottle caps or a collection of old beer cans can be turned into a one-of-a-kind conversation piece. If you don't think you have room for a bar, we beg to differ—you'll be able to find a spot, even if it's tucked into an alcove.

Take a saturated color approach when designing your basement bar to create cohesion and a bold display. This design used lots of blue, which was then accented by an arched cutout with fun wallpaper. Contrasting earthy details help this wet bar designed by D2 Interieurs really come to life. Walnut shelves infuse beautiful texture and warmth, while a gray-toned leathered Makalu stone balances with a cool and modern touch. This small wet bar designed by Brad Ramsey Interiors keeps things simple with neutral tones of gray, brown, and gold. A funky and textured backsplash adds instant visual interest while providing a fun backdrop for glasses.

Finally, the stainless steel bartop is an excellent addition to this already cozy basement bar. So making sure that your basement bar is well-lit is of utmost importance. Take inspiration from the above, and arrange for under-shelf lighting for that illuminated look.

And a basement bar that has a convenient arcade attached to it is just right to bring back those days gone by. A spot of beer with a dash of arcade-style gaming, and the above arrangement nails it perfectly. With well-lit neon gaming consoles and a semicircle bar just by the side, it doesn’t get better than this. Custom Home Bars and Commercial Bars Since 1978

These may just be hung underneath the bar and set to some dimmer switch. The stick-up lights also work nicely in this specific place and therefore are an economical choice. Recessed Lighting – This is a great option in case you have lower ceilings in your basement since they provide the sensation of height and make the basement feel bigger. Since they’re practically mounted in the ceiling, they’re not intrusive.

Add a Small Wet Bar

Aside from the sleek concrete-like appearance of the brick wall, the wet bar is another modern touch. Dancer Concrete Design crafted this basement wet bar from polished concrete. The TV wall, drink shelf, and bar stools are classic basement rec room features.

The right materials and colors can give your basement bar a contemporary feel. Pair simple rectangular tiles with a sleek granite countertop to get a sharp modern style. Accent with details like stainless steel appliances and a bright neon sign. Most guys don’t realize that rustic designs can also be incredibly elegant. Pairing reclaimed wood with sleek stone bar tops and high-end lighting adds sophistication and verve to any space.

There are multiple ways to incorporate under-mount lighting into a basement bar. If you want a permanent arrangement, then you can go ahead and hardwire the lighting under the shelves. On the other hand, for a more straightforward solution, you can go ahead and use sticky lights to the same effect.

A “man cave” is a must for the man of the house, and this décor just proves it. The entire design gives off a comfy and cozy vibe, with strategic illumination and furniture to match. But the highlight has to be the stone countertop of the basement bar, ready to begin serving the drink whenever you need it to.

Installing lighting in the shelves highlights your barware, while pendant lights of varying heights create the mood through good design. Seamlessly integrate your basement bar into your home by echoing design elements during construction. The glossy dark wood of the banister leading downstairs can continue into the design. You don’t have to go overboard with luxury finishes to create a sophisticated home bar.

I just spent 11 days on Celebrity Edge did it live up to the hype?

edge cruise ship

This ship also has made such a, forgive the pun, splash that it appeared to draw lots of first-time cruisers on my sailing. The mix of American and European travelers was obvious with multiple languages exclaiming their impressions of the exotic design spaces, which were unlike anything I had seen on most other ships. Celebrity Edge’s upmarket price tag mean guests generally respect the ship’s “smart casual” dress code. For the restaurants, the dress code states no bare feet, sports caps, tank tops, robes or swimwear allowed; no flip-flops, sandals or shorts allowed during the evening dining hours. The dress code isn’t strictly enforced in the main buffet, but is adhered to for the full-service restaurants. Our Edge® Series - five innovative outward facing ships - put the world front and center visiting more than 50 countries and 120 ports of call.

In addition to our awe-inspiring European cruises, we offer two sun-drenched Caribbean itineraries:

Travelers who really appreciate having dedicated service for the entire trip should opt for top accommodation categories that include a butler and concierge. For Celebrity guests, wearing of face masks is optional onboard the ship and tender boats. Staff continue to wear K95/FFP2 masks, and there are measures in place for crew to limit spread and exposure.

Oceanview (O

They also have private three-foot-deep plunge pools and easy walk-out access to The Retreat Sundeck. Guests staying in Edge Villas have a butler and access to all the venues of The Retreat. Large cruise ships are much like a resort, and the Celebrity Edge even has a Resort Deck, complete with outdoor swimming pool, sea view cabanas, Rooftop Garden, 400-yard jogging track, and an adults-only Solarium.

Suite (IC)

Just remember not everything is included, but this allows travelers to pay for the extras (drink packages, specialty dining or shore excursions) that fit their needs. For those seeking more outdoor options, free grill fare can be found at the Mast Grill (by the main pool), while the Rooftop Garden Grill features a wider range of barbecue choices for a charge during lunch and dinner. Aside from embarkation and disembarkation day, the spacious hallways generally do not feel crowded. Room service is free (there is a small fee for late-night delivery). The entrance to Oceanview Café, the main buffet, has a large handwash station, though handwashing and sanitizer use is not enforced.

We understand that time is the greatest luxury, which is why Condé Nast Traveler mines its network of experts and influencers so that you never waste a meal, a drink, or a hotel stay wherever you are in the world. Whether you cruise multiple times per year or you're new to cruising, the goal of Royal Caribbean Blog is for it to be a useful resource for keeping up to date with what's new and exciting with Royal Caribbean. Parents must sign kids into and out of the kids club on each visit, with the exception of Stay and Play, where parents are required to stick around the whole time. The performers, known as Edenists, might try to interact with you and draw you into the fun. If you're not interested, sit farther away from the stage, or simply politely decline as they approach. There are various locations on Edge to snag a nibble when you're feeling hungry between meals.

Destinations & Ports

The Infinite Veranda takes your room right to the water’s edge, giving you open air access to the sea with the touch of a button. These staterooms feature the latest in design and technology, and they’re 23% larger than our award-winning Solstice® Series veranda staterooms. The ship has turned tendering -- that often unpleasant experience where you have to board a small boat to get to a port -- into an infinitely more pleasant experience. The Magic Carpet is a tennis court-sized moveable deck, kitted out with an open-air lounge and bar. From there, it's a breeze to get onto the tenders, or you can stay to get a drink and watch others get on and off -- talk about people-watching.

Hypno Cam Experience is a dance party, in which an Ultra HD camera is passed around and all photos are instantly displayed on the LED screen. Passengers in AquaClass staterooms or Suites eat at Blu Restaurant, offering lighter "spa-inspired" cuisine. The Luminae Restaurant is named "Luminae at The Retreat" and (along with Blu) is part of the private, Suite Class passengers exclusive complex "The Retreat". Suite passengers have also the option to eat in the Main Dining Rooms / MDRs (Normandie Restaurant, Tuscan Restaurant, Cosmopolitan Restaurant, Cyprus Restaurant). These 4 complimentary restaurants serve menus inspired by the itinerary/destinations visited. Each restaurant offers regional wines and themed cocktails, dishes made from locally-sourced ingredients, also a rotating menu of Signature dishes for dinner (changing every evening) and a Classic dinner menu.

Whether it’s your cruise destination or a launching point, Vancouver is a beautiful destination in itself with a sophisticated downtown and lots of natural elements to explore. Honolulu, with its near perfect weather every day and beautiful mountains and tropical landscapes, is a destination not to be missed.

Dining Venues

Once through the locks, we entered Gatun Lake, which was greenish in color and surprisingly beautiful. The ship was buzzing the whole time we went through the locks, with people traveling around to get different views and enjoy the sites. There were numerous sculptural pieces throughout the ship that held my eye, including a White Pearl piece, which seemed to be a play on the Black Pear from the famous Pirate of the Caribbean movies. There were also wooden sculptures of people, which seemed to stare at me, despite having no faces. Excellent pieces and thought provoking, exactly what art should be, and most unexpected on a cruise ship. The ship's architectural elements and overall design is nothing like I have seen on any other cruise ship.

Cyprus, Cosmopolitan, Tuscan, and Normandie offer specialties as well as classics such as steak, chicken, and shrimp, as well as signature dishes. On busy sea days, I did enjoy sitting there, and it allowed for some amazing scenic views when we passed through the Panama Canal. As a newer ship, Celebrity Edge’s modern design and use of technology is conducive for minimizing crowding. For example, the mandatory Muster safety drill, which traditionally is done in-person in large groups, is completed either by viewing it on your mobile device via the app or on the TV in your stateroom. Checking in through the app also alleviates congestion during embarkation.

The facility features two (new for the fleet) separate spaces (for kids and teens) called "The Basement". At Qsine, passengers can order on iPads, then waiters bring the food in the order of choosing. Celebrity Edge offers the company's traditional "Celebrity Select Dining" (your-time dining for dinners) option, which is renamed to "Celebrity Select Dining Plus". Passengers can make reservations in any of the 4 MDRs if they know they want to eat at a specific restaurant and dinner time, or they can simply show up and enjoy dinner on their own time.

Celebrity Edge®, the first ship in our stunning Edge® Series, is now one of the first resorts at sea to receive a Recommended Rating from Forbes Travel Guide. Celebrity Edge marks a turning point in our approach to ship design. From the very first sketches to experiencing those designs in a virtual reality setting, every step was done in 3-D. From the incredible new Magic Carpet® to the private plunge pools in our new 2-story Edge Villas, we could design the most refined ship at sea. The unique outward facing design breaks from traditional ship design.

On March 13, 2017, were opened bookings for Celebrity Edge's "Inaugural cruise" (Eastern Caribbean itinerary). The ship's itinerary program started in December 2018 with Caribbean cruises leaving roundtrip from home-port Fort Lauderdale Florida (USA). General cruise prices started from USD 1,000 pp (double occupancy Inside cabin rates) for 7-days long voyages (or around USD 140 pp per day). The vessel was officially delivered from the shipbuilder on October 31, 2018, after 23 months of construction work. The delivery ceremony was attended by Richard Fain (RCCL's CEO and Chairman), Lisa Lutoff-Perlo (Celebrity Cruises' CEO and President) and Laurent Castaing (shipyard's General Manager).

With a variety of Celebrity Suites featuring different luxurious comforts, you're sure to find a perfect home away from home at sea. The CTTE voyage will include a variety of events and activities designed to optimize the artist/fan experience such as artist/cruiser photo experiences, Q&A sessions, and special theme nights. The Retreat Sundeck has luxury seating, a large swimming pool, and cabanas. Suite guests can have drinks and treats served to them from the exclusive Retreat Pool Bar. The most-talked about new feature is the Celebrity Edge Magic Carpet.

The ship is a floating gallery with a collection of over 4,000 artworks, everything from fine art photographs in corridors and every stateroom, to playful sculptures and large-scale installations. The art brings visual interest and whimsy without being messy or distracting. It was out of service due to the pandemic from March 2020 until June 2021. The relatively short amount of time in active service means the ship still feels remarkably fresh and new. Soak up the history and romance of Europe, unwind on island time in the Caribbean, go wild for the natural wonders of Alaska, or experience the land down under in Australia — all on our stunning Edge Series ships.

The martini bar in the center of the ship comes alive in the late afternoon and evening with bartenders putting on shows for patrons. I couldn’t believe a stack of 20 full martini glasses, one on top of the other, didn’t topple over as they were building a beverage pyramid to the applause of other passengers. Additionally, it employs digital signage to help cruisers find their way around, and as mentioned above, the vessel's theater productions use a specially designed stage and cutting-edge laser projections as backdrops. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom setup makes these digs great for family travel, as well.

Most non-suite staterooms can accommodate three guests (the divan sofa being the third bed). However, fitting three or four would feel tight in rooms without verandas, which afford an extra feet of breathing space. All rooms have an oversized flatscreen TV, luxurious bedding, and Celebrity Edge-series’ signature Cashmere Mattress, which are a dream. Water pressure is excellent, and hot water comes within seconds.

Celebrity Edge Deck Plans

Edge isn’t specifically targeting families with small children–there are no water slides, kid pool, go-kart track, amusement-park-type diversions, or characters in costumes. The ship aims to please the grandparents and parents, who can enjoy their shore excursion while the children are in the kids club. Celebrity Edge has a total of 1,467 staterooms, and they are some of the largest found on a mainstream ship.

It’s whimsical and fits well with the garden-style design of the space. The club can be very busy on some nights, but just “crickets” on others. It depends how early of a morning most travelers have the next day (some ports have early tour departures). Edge class vessels are sure to attract a more sophisticated, maybe even slightly older, crowd although this could be dependent on the itinerary.

Master bedroom, bathroom, and dressing room, living/dining area, guest bedroom and bathroom, terrace, and private hot tub, plus a butler on hand to ensure you never have to lift a finger during your vacation. Most of the time, the ship docks near tourist areas, but sometimes you may have to pay extra for transportation. This is the case in places like Civitavecchia (the port for Rome) and Livorno (the port for Florence) where a train or bus is necessary). After an excellent massage in the spa (I was lucky to get a coveted spot on the sea day as those can go quickly), I headed for the Thermal Suite for a soak in the sauna and steam room. Since the sauna has a window looking outward, you could watch the ocean pass by as you relaxed. Celebrity Edge offers six Edge Villas -- the first of their kind in the fleet. What makes them special is that they offer 739 square feet with a walk-out balcony that's more than 200 square feet.

I can say with certainty that I would sail on the Celebrity Edge series again. The Grand Plaza, which opens up from Deck 3-5, is definitely the main hub on Edge. There is a stage in the middle of the Martini Bar, with lots of music throughout the day. Each evening it hosted a lively show where the bartenders' twirled bottles in the air and then jumped up on the counter and poured a magical concoction into a glass. I was impressed with the live music and the diversity of songs throughout the eleven days. One of the most significant differences on the Edge is the separation of the main dining rooms into four different themed venues that look like specialty restaurants.

Celebrity Edge Itineraries

Started in 2010, Royal Caribbean Blog offers daily coverage of news and information related to the Royal Caribbean cruise line along with other relevant topics of cruising, such as entertainment, news, photo updates and more. Instead of curtains, these cabins are outfitted with blinds that can be controlled with a switch on the wall or by using the Celebrity cell phone app. Sometimes the blinds get stuck or don't work properly, which has been a complaint of many cruisers. Because the platform can't be raised when the ship is at sea or when the weather is particularly windy, passengers can never be certain when Dinner on the Edge will be available for booking. The first is Blu, which is reserved for anyone staying in an AquaClass spa cabin or a suite. Celebrity’s automatic gratuity program takes the hassle out of tipping and distribution.

I liked how they had a separate area for pizza and ice cream, which diverted people from the main food area. The Retreat Lounge is the second exclusive area for suite guests. It is located one deck below the Retreat Sundeck and is open 24/7.

Some of the design elements onboard puzzled me, and I wondered how they would age with time. The chandelier that anchors the Grand Plaza looks like a giant crown gone crazy. I was not sure what to make of this supersized light or whether I even liked it, but it was undoubtedly symbolic of the bold design on the ship.

In late-October 2017, Celebrity Cruises announced that the Edge ship will be deployed in Europe (Mediterranean) during summer 2018. EDGE-Class ships were designed via an exclusive partnership with Nate Berkus - US interior designer establishing his own company at the age of 24. In late-October 2017 Celebrity announced that the Edge ship will be deployed in Europe (UK and Mediterranean) during summer 2018.

A world of wonder awaits on Celebrity Edge®, an innovative ship that travels to spectacular destinations like wild Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific. Celebrity Edge is sailing with Starlink - the world’s most advanced broadband satellite internet - to bring you high-speed connectivity for a better onboard experience. Four Inaugural 3-night Bahamas mini-cruises from Fort Lauderdale were scheduled for November 21 and 24, and December 1 and 6. The two Inaugural cruise itineraries were both 7-night, and between Eastern and Western Caribbean. A 14-night B2B (back-to-back) combined itinerary was also available for booking.

Wright also collaborated on the main pool deck, once again upending conventions with an outward-facing design affording magnificent views. Those who have cruised on new river cruise ships will recognize the veranda design in the 918 Celebrity Edge cabin with Infinite Veranda. The Solarium is a popular adults-only relaxation spot on other Celebrity cruise ships, and past guests will be delighted to know that the concept has been continued on the Celebrity Edge. The large swimming pool is available year-round, and guests will have good views of the sea from its large windows. The popular Juice Bar and Spa Cafe have also been carried over to the new ship.

Connected to the starboard side of the cruise ship, the tennis-court-sized Magic Carpet serves multiple purposes as it moves up and down the side of the ship. It's not an elevator, so guests can't "ride" on it, but when it's locked onto deck 2, it serves as a place to board the tenders (Edge Launches) and provides access to the Destination Gateway. As we entered, I was surprised to see so much jungle around it, and I could hear birds calling out as we entered before 7 am. I had envisioned lots of people working frantically, with machines buzzing around. A few people onshore, but otherwise exceptionally calm and well organized.
